NEXT STOP FOR WINNING TEAMS IS NATIONALS IN THE FALL

MOBILE, ALA. – Aug. 7, 2011 – USTA Southern crowned 10 teams as champions in the 2011 USTA League Southern Section Championships today. The teams can advance to USTA League National Championships, which represents the largest adult recreational tennis league in the world.

In the second half, Louisiana and Georgia tied with three champions each. Overall, Louisiana brought home the most trophies with five champions and four finalists among the 20 levels played. MORE

First-Half Winners Crowned

Ten teams from the USTA Southern Section have advanced to the national championships of the largest adult recreational tennis league in the world by winning the 2011 USTA League Southern Section Championships.

Louisiana led the states with two champions and three finalists. Alabama had two winners and two finalists. Pelham, Ala. was well represented with two champions; Baton Rouge, La., had a champion and a finalist in the same division and Atlanta had two finalists. MORE

The small island of Daufuskie lies just a mile off the South Carolina coast near Hilton Head Island and is only accessible by boat. There are almost no cars on the small island and it has very few residents. But if your USTA League team arrives on Daufuskie Island to play a match and sees a golf cart with a bumper sticker about the Marshside Mamas … beware. MORE

Louisville, Kentucky is one of the most famous sports cities in the world. Being the home of the Kentucky Derby, the Louisville Slugger, as well as a major collegiate athletic program (University of Louisville Cardinals), there is a great amount of sports history that is attached to this city. Looks can be deceiving, especially when the Georgia Men’s 4.0 team took the court in their city championship match this summer. Dressed up in complete 1970’s retro tennis outfits, the team was hoping to use the comedic attire to their advantage by focusing their opponent’s attention on their outfits as opposed to the tennis.
