NEXT STOP FOR WINNING TEAMS IS NATIONALS IN THE FALL
MOBILE, ALA. – Aug. 7, 2011 – USTA Southern crowned 10 teams as champions in the 2011 USTA League Southern Section Championships today. The teams can advance to USTA League National Championships, which represents the largest adult recreational tennis league in the world.
In the second half, Louisiana and Georgia tied with three champions each. Overall, Louisiana brought home the most trophies with five champions and four finalists among the 20 levels played. MORE

First-Half Winners Crowned
Ten teams from the USTA Southern Section have advanced to the national championships of the largest adult recreational tennis league in the world by winning the 2011 USTA League Southern Section Championships.
Louisiana led the states with two champions and three finalists. Alabama had two winners and two finalists. Pelham, Ala. was well represented with two champions; Baton Rouge, La., had a champion and a finalist in the same division and Atlanta had two finalists. MORE

Dressed up in complete 1970’s retro tennis outfits, the team was hoping to use the comedic attire to their advantage by focusing their opponent’s attention on their outfits as opposed to the tennis. Tomorrow will feature an all Louisiana final in the men’s senior 4.0 division. Captain Jude Olivier of Louisiana (B) will look to lead his team to revenge over their friends and fellow Baton Rouge residents in a rematch of the State Championship match a few weeks ago. Now that Olivier has his No. 1 singles player back in action this weekend, he hopes that will give them the edge to send the team to USTA League Nationals this year. MORE

When the South Carolina 2.5 Men’s team arrived at the USTA South Carolina State Tournament, they did not think they would have to use their teams’ medical experience. Three of the teams top players – Aquil Surka, Chris Nowatka and Erik Steineger – all performed CPR at the event saving the life of a player on another team. MORE

The men’s 3.0 team from Cypress Hills Tennis Club in Mississippi are enjoying playing in a temperature that is hundreds of degrees cooler than their work environment. The team consists of five firemen, including the fire chief, fire marshal and three firemen at the local fire station. MORE
