Tennis Players Know How to Party
TENNIS WAS PUSHED ASIDE FOR A NIGHT
By Emma Knight
Last night’s player party proved
that tennis players really do know how to have a good
time. The party, located next to the historic USS
Alabama Battleship, featured a luau theme. With flowered
leis on tables and island-inspired dishes, food and
atmosphere were definitely a big hit.
“The atmosphere was unique, but
very appealing to the majority of players,” said Rudy
Lewis of Birmingham, AL. Lewis went on to say, “I
thoroughly enjoyed the food, desserts, and friendliness
of all the players.”
The party venue was home to many
battle planes distributed across the room. Also there to
be viewed and photographed was the Davis Cup, which was
brought over from Cox-Copeland Tennis Center earlier
that day. Also, a photographer was taking pictures of
teams dressed in fun costumes, wigs, hats and props. The
pictures were a great gift for players to take home and
to remember their trip to Mobile.
“The band was right on getting
players dancing even after a long day of tennis,” said
Lewis.
Players were motivated by dance
contests offering giveaways from USTA Southern staff
members. The energy and enthusiasm on the dance floor
was contagious and soon the dance floor was filled with
people “bustin’ a move.”
“Hopefully were not too tired from
all the dancing to play,” said Missy Tanner from
Arkansas. “The party was a great chance for my team and
me to forget about tennis and have a good time.” |
