TENNIS AND DANCE COME TOGETHER
By Jason Steinberg
The North Carolina Senior Women’s
4.5 team hails from all over the state. With players
from different places such as Charlotte, Wilmington,
Greenville and other locations, this team enjoys the
time they get to spend together playing tennis. They
even use the time to do a little bit of dancing.
The widespread North Carolina team
rarely gets the opportunity to practice as an entire
team, but they are able to practice with small groups in
each area of the state. The players have known each
other for years, often playing in competitions against
each other. They finally decided that it was more fun to
play together than against each other, and formed a team
four few years ago. Ever since, they have been very
successful.
Even their husbands have come to be
good friends over the years. They frequently get
together to play tennis and even golf sometimes. The
team believes that they have become closer due to their
spouses involvement.
When they are on the court, they
are all business. But, off the court, these ladies love
to dance. JoAnn Crolley is the leader of the pack when
it comes to dancing. Crolley went down to Myrtle Beach
and learned a dance she calls the “Tush Push.” She came
back and taught this dance to her team, even though one
or two members were reluctant to participate.
Dancing is what this team does for
fun. They have even showed off their moves in the
parking lot of the hotel this week in Mobile. With the
top down of one of the team members’ convertible, music
was blasting and the ladies were showing off their
moves. It is this easy going spirit combined with their
hard work that makes this North Carolina team so
successful.
