By Ron Cioffi
In a age where every athlete is
looking for an edge, the Tennessee Senior Women’s 3.5
team admits using every new concoction to help them
compete.

help keep their teammate striking winners. |
Captain Pat Yung-Okamoto said the
team has been buying up every new chemical to get them
through the torrid heat of States and Regionals.
Yung-Okamoto and her teammates
pulled out handfuls of products that provide energy
boosts, mental concentration and pain relief.
“We use lots of magic concoctions
of electrolytes and recovery potions!,” she said.
Whatever that means.
However, Pat specified their
favorite products and explained their effects. All are
available in discount stores without a prescription.
There’s Spark and Zipfizz that
provide vitamins, B12 and amino acids. One teammate said
Zipfizz is a powder that makes a lemonade-tasting drink.
Another product in use is
Endurolytes, an anti-cramping capsule with a web site
that shows off a competitive cyclist like those who
battle in the Tour de France.
There’s the Stopain, a spray
designed to deaden tennis elbow or other inflamed body
parts. Team members have also been treated with electric
stimulation therapy.
Of course, the team also depends
upon the senior player’s best friend, ibuphropen.
“We need these to deal with the hot
weather. We’re old people and we’ve got 3 p.m. matches,”
said the captain of the team based in downtown
Nashville. “They really help us survive the cramping,
minor senior aches and pains. We each have our own
rituals and this is one that works from us.”
